Katharine Graham - Sole CEO of a Fortune 500 Company

Who was she?

Katharine Graham was the daughter of businessman Eugene Meyer and civil rights activist Agnes Meyer (née Ernst). Eugene Meyer was a businessman and newspaper publisher and purchased The Washington Post in 1933. Katharine attended Vassar College but transferred to the University of Chicago. She then became a reporter for the San Francisco News for a year before joining the editorial staff of The Washington Post.
