Who was she?

Abigail Johnson is an American businesswoman and the current Chairman and CEO of Fidelity Investments. Her grandfather, Edward Johnson II, founded Fidelity Investments in 1946, and she took over the company from her father in 2016.

When she was a child, Johnson grew interested in her father's work, although she and her younger siblings were not pressured to join the family business. While she was a student at William Smith College, Johnson worked summers at Fidelity, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in art history. She then attended Harvard Business School and became a full time analyst for Fidelity after receiving her MBA.

Since becoming chairman of Fidelity, Johnson owns an estimated 28.5% of the firm, which as of September 2023 manages discretionary assets of $4.5 trillion. She embraces the concept of cryptocurrencies, and in 2018, Fidelity launched a platform that allowed cryptocurrency investors to trade Bitcoin and Ether. In 2023, she was ranked the 8th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.
